Gadjo Dilo, a gypsy swing jazz band
“Gadjo Dilo” is a unique band created with the sole purpose of reanimating the Manouche gypsy jazz musical tradition. Their source of inspiration is the great gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, characterized by all great jazz musicians – without exception- as a genius. They combine traditional gypsy jazz with Greek folk music, creating their own version, giving the title “Manouche De Grec” released in 2013.
Following their 2013 summer in the Balkans, where they participated in two of the largest Jazz Festivals (Bansko International Jazz Festival 2013 – in which they appeared as headliners – and Nisville International Jazz Festival 2013- the first time a Greek band performed) created the album Manouche De Grec. The album includes 12 popular cover songs from Greek artists such as “Peftis se lathi” by V. Tsitsanis, bringing into life manouche gypsy swing traditional music, influenced by the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt.
